Soldiers take over Adamus concession after lease revocation

Military personnel have been deployed to the premises of Adamus Resources Limited following the government’s revocation of the company’s mining leases.

Citi News sources indicate that the soldiers have secured the entire operational area, from the Esiama gate through to all sections of the concession, effectively placing the site under tight security control.

The deployment comes just hours after the government, through the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, announced the revocation of Adamus’ mining leases covering the Akango, Salman, and Nkroful concessions.

The action follows findings by the Minerals Commission, which cited alleged regulatory breaches, unauthorised mining activities, and environmental infractions.

However, Adamus has strongly rejected the decision, insisting it was taken without due process and based on allegations that do not reflect the reality of its operations.

In a statement, the company said it had taken note of the revocation and was responding “in the interest of accuracy and public clarity.”

“The company strongly rejects the allegations that have been cited as the basis for the revocation and states that they do not reflect the true facts surrounding its operations,” it said.

Adamus maintained that it is a duly licensed operator with valid approvals from the Minerals Commission and the Environmental Protection Agency under the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703).

The company also raised concerns over what it described as a breach of due process, insisting it was not formally notified of the allegations or given the opportunity to respond.

“The company was not formally notified of the specific allegations and was not afforded the opportunity to address same as required by the mining laws of Ghana,” the statement said.

It added that the process undermines “established principles of fairness and administrative justice,” particularly in relation to long-term investments in the mining sector.

Adamus categorically denied any involvement in illegal mining or unlawful subcontracting, stressing its commitment to responsible mining and environmental protection.

“The company categorically denies any involvement in illegal mining activities or unlawful subcontracting,” it stated.

The company further said it is engaging relevant authorities and remains confident that a full examination of the facts will demonstrate compliance with the law. It also indicated it will take all necessary steps to protect its legal rights while maintaining engagement with stakeholders.
