At 24, Black Sherif becomes TGMA's youngest two-time Artiste of the Year winner
When the final announcement echoed through the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday night, history was made.

Black Sherif had officially reclaimed the ultimate crown at the 27th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, winning the coveted Artiste of the Year award for the second time in his career.

But beyond the applause, celebrations, and trophies lies a remarkable fact that makes Blacko's latest triumph even more significant.

At just 24 years old, Black Sherif is now the youngest artiste in Ghana Music Awards history to win the Artiste of the Year category twice.

His first victory came in 2023, when he was only 21 years old — an achievement that immediately positioned him among the brightest young stars Ghana's music industry had ever seen.

Three years later, he has returned to achieve the feat again, becoming the youngest musician to enter the elite circle of multiple-time Artiste of the Year winners.

So far, only four acts in the history of the awards have managed to win the category twice:

VIP/VVIP — 2004 & 2011

Sarkodie — 2010 & 2012

Stonebwoy — 2015 & 2024

Black Sherif — 2023 & 2026

However, research by entertainment journalist Joseph Owusu Worae shows that Black Sherif achieved the milestone earlier than any artiste before him.

HOW BLACK SHERIF COMPARES TO THE LEGENDS

Rap icon Sarkodie, now 40 years old, first won the Artiste of the Year award in 2010 at age 24. Two years later, in 2012, he secured his second crown at age 26.

Meanwhile, Stonebwoy, born on March 5, 1988, first captured the title in 2015 at age 27. His second victory came in 2024 at age 36.

The legendary group VIP, later rebranded as VVIP, also achieved the feat across two different eras of Ghanaian music, winning in 2004 and again in 2011.

Yet among all these celebrated names, Black Sherif stands alone as the youngest to accomplish it.

From the streets of Konongo-Zongo to global stages, Blacko has built a career powered by raw storytelling, emotional honesty, and fearless creativity.

At an age where many musicians are still searching for their identity, Black Sherif has already built a legacy strong enough to place him beside some of Ghana's greatest modern music icons.

And perhaps the most remarkable part of his story is this: at 24, his journey is only beginning.

No artiste in the history of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards has ever won the Artiste of the Year title three times. Black Sherif is now just one crown away from becoming the first.
