The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced that this year’s ban on drumming and noise-making will take effect from Monday, May 4 to Thursday, June 4, 2026, within the Ga Traditional Area.
In a public notice, the Assembly said the directive, instituted in collaboration with the Ga Traditional Council, is aimed at preserving peace, harmony and national security during the annual observance ahead of the Homowo Festival.
As part of the guidelines, churches are required to conduct their activities strictly within their premises and refrain from the use of musical instruments throughout the period.
The Assembly also banned the placement of loudspeakers outside churches, mosques and pubs, while roadside evangelism has been suspended.
The directive further called on religious bodies and traditional authorities to promote mutual respect and discourage followers from making inflammatory or derogatory remarks about other beliefs and practices.
In addition, funeral rites and related activities have been prohibited in line with customs of the Ga Traditional Area.
The Assembly emphasised that enforcement of the directive will be carried out only by an authorised task force made up of AMA officials, the Ghana Police Service, and representatives of the traditional councils.
It cautioned that no individual or group outside this arrangement should attempt to enforce the ban.
Residents have been urged to cooperate fully with the directive to ensure a peaceful 'Nmaa Dumo' period.
The AMA also provided dedicated hotlines for further clarification and public inquiries.
