Wa: Magistrate Court convicts 3 persons for unlawful possession of firearms
The Wa District Magistrate Court has convicted three persons for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region.

The convicts, Yiritang Boosi aged 35, Yahaya Samad, aged 27, and Adams Alhassan, 37, were prosecuted on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, after being arrested for possessing firearms and ammunition without lawful authority.

The accused persons, who had earlier been remanded into custody, reappeared before the court presided over by His Worship Simon Kofi Bediako. They pleaded guilty to the charges.

The court subsequently convicted them on their own pleas and sentenced each to a fine of 200 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢2,400.
In default of payment, they will serve nine months’ imprisonment.

In a press release signed by the Upper West Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, the Police encouraged the public to continue collaborating with law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible information to help combat crime in the region.

The Police reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of residents across the Upper West Region.
