NACOC arrests 10 KTU students over alleged trafficking of cannabis-infused products

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested ten students of Koforidua Technical University (KTU) for allegedly producing, distributing and selling cannabis-infused drinks and ice creams during the Students' Representative Council (SRC) Hall Week celebrations.

The intelligence led operation was carried out as part of NACOC's ongoing efforts to crack down on illicit drug trafficking.

The arrests were made during the Hall Week festivities held between July 31 and August 1, 2026.

According to the Commission, the suspected ringleader, 23-year-old Priscilla Tetteh, was arrested alongside nine other students while they were allegedly selling the cannabis infused products to students and patrons at the event.

Preliminary investigations suggest the group had established an organised network for the production, distribution and sale of the narcotic laced consumables on campus, raising concerns over the safety and wellbeing of students.

NACOC described the operation as a major breakthrough in dismantling an emerging criminal enterprise that allegedly exploited campus social events to promote the use of narcotic substances among young people.

The KTU suspects
The Commission stressed that cannabis infused food, beverages and other edible products containing controlled substances remain illegal under Ghanaian law.

It warned that anyone found manufacturing, distributing, possessing or selling such products will face prosecution.

NACOC also expressed concern over what it described as the growing trend of commercialising narcotic substances under the guise of entertainment and entrepreneurship, urging educational institutions to remain centres of learning and not platforms for drug trafficking.

Cannabis-infused drinks
The Narcotic Commission further called on parents, university authorities, student leaders and the public to support the fight against illicit drugs by reporting suspected drug related activities.

The ten suspects remain in NACOC custody and are expected to be processed in accordance with the law.
