Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has outlined three key benchmarks by which he wants Ghanaians to assess his performance at the end of his tenure, saying his success should be measured by his ability to stabilise the economy, reduce inflation and create well-paying jobs.
According to the Finance Minister, these three objectives represent the foundation of the government’s broader economic agenda and are central to its efforts to improve the living standards of Ghanaians.
The Finance Minister made the remarks during an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show on Friday, July 24, where he spoke with host Bernard Avle about Ghana’s economic performance and the government’s plans following the presentation of the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review.
During the Mid-Year Budget Review to Parliament, the Finance Minister highlighted improvements in key macroeconomic indicators, including economic growth, inflation, fiscal performance and foreign exchange reserves.
Ato Forson said he has consistently maintained that the ultimate measure of his stewardship at the Finance Ministry should not be based solely on economic statistics but on tangible improvements in the lives of ordinary Ghanaians.
The Finance Minister noted that reducing inflation is another critical priority, explaining that stable prices help protect household incomes, improve purchasing power and create a more predictable environment for businesses.
He stressed that while economic stability and lower inflation are important achievements, they must ultimately translate into employment opportunities and improved livelihoods for citizens.
“I have said that I want to be judged on three things. The first is how well I am able to stabilise the economy. The second is on prices, that is inflation, and the third is how to use both to create well-paying jobs for the people of Ghana.
“You need to stabilise the economy and without that, it is difficult to achieve declining inflation. This government has done tremendously well with inflation and we have stabilised inflation.”
