The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has dismissed reports suggesting it was the victim of an alleged GH¢308,000 theft involving one of its national service personnel, describing such claims as inaccurate and misleading.
In a statement issued on July 7, the Authority said it had taken notice of a media publication claiming that a DVLA service person allegedly stole GH¢308,000 to purchase a Hyundai Elantra saloon car, a 50-inch Samsung television and to pay a sibling's school fees.
The DVLA clarified that the money at the centre of the investigation does not belong to the Authority and was not stolen from any of its accounts.
"The Authority wishes to categorically state that the alleged GH¢308,000 involved in the matter does not belong to the DVLA and was not stolen from the Authority or any of its accounts," the statement said.
According to the Authority, the matter under investigation is a personal dispute involving an individual who is on contract as a National Service Person at the DVLA.
It stressed that at no point has the Authority suffered any financial loss in connection with the case.
While confirming that the individual is attached to the DVLA, the Authority maintained that the alleged offence is unrelated to its operations, finances or official activities, but rather concerns a dispute between two private individuals.
"The alleged offence is not connected to the operations, finances or official activities of the Authority but rather two different individuals. It is therefore inaccurate and misleading to portray the incident in a manner that suggests the Authority was the victim of the alleged theft," the statement added.
The DVLA reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability and expressed confidence in the due process of the law.
It also assured the public of its full cooperation with the Ghana Police Service should its assistance be required as investigations into the matter continue.
